Virginia Humanities Announces 2026 K-12 Educator Fellows
Charlottesville—Today, Virginia Humanities, Virginia's state humanities council, announced six new recipients of its K-12 Educator Fellowship, designed to support educators from around the commonwealth who are committed to teaching the humanities for primary and secondary school students.
This year’s cohort is composed of educators from five public schools and one private school in Albemarle, Charlottesville, Chesterfield, Richmond, and Rockingham.
"This year's cohort includes two librarians, three history/social studies teachers, and a language arts teacher," says Emma Ito who directs the K-12 Educator Fellowship. "They range from Pre-K to high school teachers. What unites them, and all our K-12 fellows, is a passion for using the humanities to help students across the commonwealth learn and grow."
Throughout their fellowships, the six educators will meet, learn, and work together to create learning experiences that will be shared on the Virginia Humanities Education website, a free resource accessible to educators everywhere.
The Fellowship has connected me with other passionate educators, historians, scholars, and professionals across the state, and I'm forever grateful for this supportive network.

About Virginia Humanities
Virginia Humanities is the state humanities council. We aim to tell the stories of all Virginians—or, better yet, find ways for people to tell their own stories. We want Virginians to connect with their history and culture and, in doing that, we hope we will all better understand each other. Virginia Humanities is headquartered in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia, but our work covers the Commonwealth. Founded in 1974, we are one of fifty-six humanities councils created by Congress with money and support from the National Endowment for the Humanities to make the humanities available to all Americans.
